Soap versus sanitiser for preventing the transmission of acute respiratory infections in the community: a systematic review with meta-analysis and dose-response analysis.
Link: Tammy Hoffmann 1, et al.
Summary of abstract
Objective: To compare the effectiveness of hand hygiene using alcohol-based hand sanitiser to soap and water for preventing the transmission of acute respiratory infections (ARIs) and to assess the relationship between the dose of hand hygiene and the number of ARI, influenza-like illness (ILI) or influenza events.
Results: Eighteen trials were included. When meta-analysed, three trials of soap and water versus control found a non-significant increase in ARI events (risk ratio (RR) 1.23, 95% CI 0.78 to 1.93); six trials of sanitiser versus control found a significant reduction in ARI events (RR 0.80, 95% CI 0.71 to 0.89).
Conclusions: Adequately performed hand hygiene, with either soap or sanitiser, reduces the risk of ARI virus transmission; however, direct and indirect evidence suggest sanitiser might be more effective in practice.

A little goes a long way

I like this hand sanitiser a lot. It’s an excellent strength and it’s really thick so a little goes a long way, which is always a big bonus when you have to pay so much for this stuff these days!

Goldilocks consistency

Reasonable price for this much sanitiser in these times. It is a good consistency not too thin or thick. It dries quick and leaves your hands feeling proper clean

Nice smell, not sticky at all

This is a really nice sanitiser. It has a nice smell to it, evaporates quickly and doesn't leave a sticky residue.

Excellent

I use a lot of 70% alcohol hand sanitisers at work, some of which can be a little overpowering, so I did wonder how strong this would be at 80% but it gives off no overpowering smells at all. You only need a small amount. It absorbs and dries quickly and has a nice feel to it. I've found some sanitisers can leave a sticky residue but this one doesn't. It does state that as it's highly concentrated you may find white residue marks/flakes on your hands which are harmless but I haven't noticed any. It's thick gel and at 500ml and only needing to use a small amount, this will last a good while and at the current RRP of £8.99, I would say it is well worth it considering some shops sell little tiny bottles for £2! I will buy more when this one eventually runs out. Recommended.

Feel The Cold Burn!

this is the stuff! 80% proof does the job! i work in social care, and in 13 hour shifts come into contact with a lot of hand sanitiser, much of it weak, watery, and generally of poor quality, some actually giving off a foul odour. this, though, cuts the mustard big style, and passes the test with ease! the test? my measure for a good efficient hand sanitiser is, after thorough application, is to raise the hands and shake them 'jazz hands' style to experience the cool burn! many brands fall way below satisfaction level, but with this you feel like the job's been done - a re-inforcing sense of being protected. the odour is also pleasing and not 'raw' in any way. i shall decant this into a lanyard suspended small bottle for use at work, because if i took the whole bottle into work the quality would surely result in it getting nicked!

Quality hand sanitiser

I have bought and tried several types and makes over the past months of hand sanitiser for my family and this one seems to be a decent one. It is highly concentrated and 80% alcohol helps to spread easily and dries quickly not like some I have tried. I have read all the information on this product and am happy as far as you can be to use it on myself and my family, the price seems reasonable for the quality .
